On June 13, 2006, General Conway was nominated by President George Bush to become the 34th Commandant of the Marine Corps. The nomination was confirmed by the Senate on 2 August 2006. On 13 Nov, General Conway was sworn in by Gen. Peter Pace, Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff as the 34th Commandant of the Marine Corps.
General Conway’s personal awards include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal (3), the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
